History

1904

The Glenview Hotel dates back over 109 years, when it was originally opened as a cottage, hunting lodge and guesthouse with five bedrooms and was part of the Powerscourt Estate.

1919

The house was purchased by The McCarthy family business. They added bedrooms and a function room. The hotel belonged to the McCarthy’s for the next six decades, gaining a reputation for excellent food and service.

1978

The Patrick Family acquired the Hotel in 1978 who further developed the Hotel.

1992

Stafford Investment Company purchased the Hotel in 1992.

Under the guidance of Stafford Investment the hotel flourished and grew from 42 bedrooms to 74 bedrooms, including a magnificent Penthouse Suite. A new award-winning restaurant and function suite was built, along with a Leisure Club, boasting state of the art equipment.

During the course of 2000/01, the bar was redeveloped and re-branded as the Conservatory Bar.

The Leisure Club Garden was created and landscaped, and the ground floor bedrooms were upgraded to four star standard, in keeping with the rest of the Hotel.

In 2002, the Glenview Suite and Bar were refurbished at a cost of IR£250,000. At this time the Hotel also gained extra facilities (children’s

crèche and Beauty Therapy Rooms) at the loss of 4 bedrooms, leaving the Hotel at its current bedroom stock of 71.

We also saw the addition of The Woodland Walks which are a fantastic amenity to have.

April 2001, the AA awarded the Hotel a four-star rating for the first time.

2006

2006 saw the hotel being bought under Private Family ownership who continue to invest in the property to ensure it’s longevity in the community.

Throughout the many years, the hotel has welcomed many acclaimed national and international artists, to include Katherine Hepburn, Peter O’Toole, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, John Huston, John Hurt, along with many well known Musicians and Sporting Celebrities.

World leaders have visited the hotel, namely the world renowned Kennedy Family (including JFK & Jackie Kennedy) who stopped at the Glenview on their way to Waterford.

In 2014 to celebrate the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Glenview Hotel, a book was published to mark the centenary.
