Sustainability
The Glenview Hotel & Leisure Club places a high priority on sustainability. We are committed to concentrating on advancing our sustainability practices so that we may enhance the standard of living for all, safeguard the ecosystem, and maintain natural resources for future generations.
The Glenview Hotel and Leisure Club is one of many environmentally friendly hotels in Wicklow, and we are committed to considering all our decisions. This pertains to us specifically and covers everything from the packaging we use to the suppliers we select to work with all the way down to customer service. Being environmentally friendly and sustainable is advantageous for the hotel as well as for helping our visitors reduce their carbon impact.
2024 Glenview Hotel And Leisure Club Green Team
The Glenview Hotel Green team was established in 2022 to ensure that the Glenview Hotel and Leisure Club were more environmentally aware with a focus on waste management and reduction, energy management and water conservation.
Some of the main achievements over the past 2-3 years include:
- A reduction in energy through a phased replacement of all interior and exterior lighting with energy efficient led lights and bulbs as well as sensor lighting in many areas. This has seen a reduction in energy usage in these areas of 60-80%.
- We have installed rain water collection tanks of 3000 litres and are currently in the process of installing more water storage tanks to build it to 5000 litres.
- We have invested a huge amount on planting of both shrubs and trees around the entire property and this will continue in 2024.
- A reduction of approx. 25% in water usage due to low flush toilets and shower head and tap aerators
- Refillable glass water bottles in meeting rooms and bedrooms has significantly reduced the amount of recycling of glass and plastic water bottles.
- Refillable shower gel and shampoo dispensers in bedrooms and leisure club showers has reduced the amount of single use plastics.
Our 2024 Green Team aim to build on the great work that has happened over the past few years and we have a range of short, medium and long term goals for 2024 including the following,
- Installing a further 5000 litres of water storage tanks for rain water collection in March 2024. This water will be used watering the plants etc in the extensive gardens.
- Installing a large polytunnel behind our staff accommodation to further improve our in house market garden.
- Planting of more trees throughout the entire property.
- Further education of all of our managers and staff both internally and externally on energy management, waste management and water conservation.
- Installing both solar panels and air source heat pumps to help supplement our swimming pool heating system and reduce our gas usage.
Energy
We are committed to decreasing our footprint on the environment.
We have replaced all our fluorescent bulbs with LEDs. There are PIR sensors throughout the building in most areas.
We have set up recycling stations for all appliances such as batteries, hairdryers, and any technical equipment. We are focused on making sure these items are recycled in an environmentally friendly way.
Energy-awareness posters are placed in all staff areas and regular training.
Water
We are committed to conserving water by using only what we need so that we can all play our part in safeguarding our water for our future.
We have installed leak detection systems and metering throughout the hotel so that we ensure wastage is minimized.
Appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines are low-flow models to make further water savings.
All guest bathrooms are fitted with sensors and low flush technology.
We have installed Smart Flow to eliminate excessive water usage, human error, appliance failure and plumbing leaks.
Filtered water is offered to all guests dining in the hotel restaurant.
Waste
We are committed to measuring waste consumption every month and implementing the following initiatives to reduce consumption:
Adopting a reduce, reuse, recycle policy throughout the property.
We have dedicated green leaders in different departments to lead the movement of educating our staff on proactive approaches to recycling.
Paper/recycled coasters and beer mats are used throughout the hotel as well as paper straws.
